ITIL stands for information technology infrastructure library. ITIL supports the delivery of high quality IT services. The main areas of focus for ITIL include-

- improving the quality of servies
- defining service processes within the IT organization
- focusing on the IT customer
- implementing centralized customer support functions

For achieving the above, ITIL stresses on change and configuration management. Configuration management is required to ensure neccesary information for planning and monitoring of IT services. This may include verifying configuration records, accounting for IT assets, collate information for incident management, problem and change management and other processes. The change management part of ITIL looks at minimizing the risk of damage to existing and new application systems and services.
Changes should be implemented with minimal risk and changes are validated and tracked at each step. In implementing a risk management framework, it is highly beneficial to integrate COSO, COBIT and ITIL for a sustainable compliance model.
