SAP R3 Performance Tuning Basics
Our topic for discussion today is performance and tuning basic concepts in SAP R/3. Both the terms have been explained in SAP scenario with examples below.
Performance in SAP is the measure of system response time to user requests. Performance includes both interactive performance and or in batch configuration. Performance issues in SAP R/3 can result in overall acceptance of the system. This may lead to financial loss to the organization. Performance should therefore be considered seriously at the Therefore this issue must be seriously considered and planned for. Performance and tuning are part of the overall SAP system monitoring and administration. Factors like system sizing, disk input / output, background processing etc affect performance.
Tuning on the other hand is a process of optimizing performance, and consists of setting and configuring the hardware and software components. The ultimate goal of tuning is enhanced system response times. Tuning deals with optimization of processes with available resources. While tuning SAP, system managers and technical consultants monitor SAP system workload profiles and statistics. Based on the data collected, they take corrective action if required. Tuning is dependent on factors like buffers, processes, optimization of database , programs etc.
