SAP R3 installation is a huge task. Companies which decide to implement SAP R3 need to understand the technical and functional aspects of installation. In SAP R3 installations, availability of the SAP system is the most important issue. SAP defines availability as:
"the fraction of time the system can be used to perform the functions for which it was designed".
Below, I am discussing the hardware and software elements companies encounter during an SAP R3 installation.
Software Elements in SAP R3 installation
1. Server configuration, operating system software and base software used.
2. SAP R3 software bundle
3. GUI Graphical operating environment for the personal as well as server computers.
4. SAP information container which comes as part of the SAP R3 installation bundle. SAP information container is nothing but a relational database which comes as part of the SAP R3 installation kit.
Hardware Elements in SAP R3 installation
1. SAP server components with sufficient memory and a space.
2. Stable Network infrastructure with LAN servers with 99 percent availability.
3. Printers, presentation servers and personal computers including network interface cards.
