SAP R3 Reporting Tools Infosets

Within SAP R3, infosets are areas which provide special views of the logical SAP database. In layman's language, infosets are data sources used in getting the data for SAP reports. Such data sources are notmally evaluated in queries. A user can maintain an infoset in SAP through the transaction code "nSQ02".

As against writing reports using the SAP Query tool, where the programmer needs to write huge lines of codes, writing reports using SAP infosets in much easier. Since infosets use logical database, data in prearranged in the form of tables. SAP programmers need to pick up the correct tables and the data elements from them which they want ot include in the report. In an ideal world, infosets would be maintained by the SAP system administrator. One of the main benefits of using infosets is that it relieves the system administrator from writing ABAP code for reports. Any time there is a question of writing code, there is always a chance of bugs in the code. Infosets in all about intuitively choosing tables from logical database to write a customized report in SAP R/3.
