Many companies are using automated solutions to manage access control and
segregation of duties in their ERPs. One such company which provides automated solutions for tracking and managing segregation of duties SOD issues is Virsa. I did not know much about this company and their products till recently. I was an attendee at SAPPHIRE' 06 and happened to be present at a presentation about Virsa. I am attaching a slide from the presentation below which will help me in expalining how Virsa tackles access issues.

The slide above shows Virsa's main product which is compliance calibrator. Compliance calibrator helps in access control risk analysis and at the same time allows and SOD issues. What makes compliance calibrator unique is that it is a preventive solution. After analysis of access is complete and risks are identified, Compliance calibrator shows the user what is the repercussion of the proposed change and how it will help solve the issue. Users know exaclty what wuld e the result of a change in setting.

The other product which Virsa has come up with is called Role Expert. Role expert is a cross platform product and can be used in defining user roles based on different environments user need to work in. Finally, Virsa has Virsa Firefighter for SAP. It is basically a solution for controlling super user access to the SAP R3 system. The presentation was pretty interesting, and made one thing very clear, automated access control compliance solutions for Sarbanes Oxley are here to stay.
