I have discussed extensively about the authorization concept in SAP here. In SAP, authorization profiles simpilfy the administration of authorizations. Once authorization profiles are created, they are assigned to users. Depending upon the authorization profile assigned to a user, the user will have display, admin, ABAP etc access rights in SAP. Below, I am jotting down important authorization profiles in SAP with a short description of each of the profles.
1. SAP_ALL - All authorizations
2. S_ABAP_ALL - All ABAP programming authorizations
3. S_ADMI_ALL - All system administration functions
4. SAP_NEW - All new authorization objects added during an R/3 upgrade for functions that already exist in your R/3 system
5. S_A.ADMIN - System operator authorization without configuration authorization
6. S_A.CUSTOMIZ - All customizing authorizations
7. S_A.DEVELOP - All development operations within the ABAP Workbench
8. S_A.DOKU - Authorizations for Technical Writers
9. S_A.SHOW - Basis administration display authorization only
10. S_A.SYSTEM - (SAP superuser) All authorizations for a System Administrator
11. S_A.USER - Basis authorizations for a Basis user
12. S_ADDR_ALL - Authorizations for address administration
13. S_ADMI_SAP - Basic administration authorization except spool administration
14. S_ADMI_SPO_A - All spool administrations
15. S_ADMI_SPO_D - All spool device administration
16. S_ADMI_SPO_E - All extended spool administration
17. S_ADMI_SPO_J - All spool job administration
18. S_ADMI_SPO_T - All spool device type administration
