I discussed the how underdeliveries are processed in SAP in one of my earlier posts. However, overdeliveries are not allowed in the standard SAP system. If a user tries to process an overdelivery, SAP gives an error message. However, overdeliveries can be processed in SAP provided certain configurations are made in purchase orders. There are mainly two things which can be done in order to process an overdelivery.
1. Overdelivery tolerance - A tolerance percentage can be set so that if quantity of goods received is greater than the total order quantity, it can be processed subject to the over delivery tolerance. To take an example, an overdelivery tolerance of 10% will allow a user to receive overdeliveries over nd above 10% of the order quantity.
2. Unlimited Indicator - This is a special configuration in SAP. If the unlimited indicator is ticked in SAP for purchase order, overdeliveries of any amount can be accepted. The system simple overrides the check for quantity delivered and order quantity. Any number can be entered for delivery without any error message from SAP. However, setting the unlimited indicator is not recommended. This is applicable only in certain special and exceptional cases.
