SAP Materials Management MM - Definition of a PLANT in SAP? / What is a PLANT in SAP Terminology?

In SAP, the goods procurement process involves many organization levels. The organization levels include Client, Company Code, Plant, Storage Location and Purchasing Organization / Group. I am today discussing what a Plant is in terms if SAP MM procurement process. In SAP, a Plant is defined as -

"an organizational logistics unit that structures the enterprise from the perspective of production, procurement, plant maintainence and materials planning. A Plant is thus a manufacturing facility or branch within the company."

A Plant can thus be any one of the following location namely; regional sales office, central warehouse, manufacturing facility, corporate headquarters, maintainence unit etc. It is recommended that when congifuring a Plant in SAP, use the Plant copying function. When this copying function is used, SAP processes the entry in the plant table an in all custom tables wherever the primary key defined is plant.
