SAP Sales Distribution - Basic concepts of Sales Document VBAK VBAP VBEP

Sales documents are the basic building blocks of the SAP Sales & Distribution process. A Sales document in SAP defines how data will function, how it is to be displayed, how pricing will be handled etc. Each Sales document in SAP is divided into three levels. Data for each of three levels is stored in different tables. Let me explain:

Header Level Data Table VBAK - Header level data table stores the master data such as customer, material master data including sales area and organizational data. The way one configures the document type settings, determines how sales document will function.

Item Level Data Table VBAP - Item level data table stores the material item data for example the material number, order quantity, material type etc.

Schedule Line Data Table VBEP - Schedule line data table mainly stores delivery relating data. This might include delivery dates, delivery quantities etc.

One thing to remember is that each of the above three levels of data can be controlled seperately. Each level will have its own control data.
