SAP offers a wide variety of functionality to meet your requirements. Today, I am discussing a functionality called RFC Remote Function Call. A Remote Function Call (RFC) is nothing but to call a function in one system (server) from another system (client). To take an example, such communication can be between two SAP systems or between an SAP and a non-SAP system. Remote Function Calls in SAP can be implemented through the DESTINATION parameter on the CALL FUNCTION statement and through configuration of a table named RFCDES.
Someone asked me as to what do the terms "client” and “server” with regards to RFCs. There seems to be some confusion in the terminology between SAP consultants. Simply speaking a Client is the system which originates the RFC and the Server is the system that is being called by the client.
