Concept of PKI Public Key Infrastructure

I was going through some well researched material on PKI. I have tried to explain conceptual aspects of PKI in simple terms below. Encryption is the best way to ensure secure transmission of confidential company data. However, to enable encryption, an infrastructure is required to be managed which ensures generating and managing encryption keys. PKI Public Key Encryption is nothing but the management of the cryptographic keys (Public or Private) which are used for secure and authentic transfer of information between entities.

Normally, a Public Key Infrastructure PKI consists of the following:

- Certification Authority

- Registration Authority

- Certificate Management System

- Certificate Directory
