Computer Internet Security

The Internet has made it possible for organizations to enhance their productivity, gain and share knowledge and market themselves online. But, inspite of its usefulness, the use of internet has also resulted in security related issues which the organizations never faced before. Organizational computing systems are now all the more vulnerable to unauthorized acces. An intruder will be able to access any computer that is attached to the Internet with the help of various tools, password cracking softwares, etc.

The number of users accessing the internet is increasing day by day. Every school, college, business, home is now connected to the internet. Web surfing has become one of the favourite pastime of people. Much of the public. As far as a business is concerned, employees having access to the internet can misuse the same. There is a major risk that company confidential information is accidentally or intentionally leaked on the internet. Similalry, a virus attack perpetrated through the internet can create havoc and put the entire organisation's internal network at risk. To curtail the inappropriate use of the Internet, an organization must have a policy that defines what is acceptable, what is not, and what can happen if those who misuse the Internet are caught. This is normally put down in a document called the 'Acceptable Use Policy'.

Connectivity to the internet exposes the organization to variety of risks. Some of these risks are so critical that they can put the entire organizations credibiltiy at risk. Making the Internet safe and secure for business requires careful management by the organization. Organizations will have to use existing and new, emerging technologies, security policies tailored to the business needs of the organization, and employee training in order to accomplish this goal. Any company normally goes through the four stages of internet usage 1) Access, 2) Presence, 3) Integration and lastly 4) E-business. Each of these stages present varied
risks. Computer internet security has to be managed by organizations in a proactive manner to ensure that business run profitably without any interruptions.
